Still a pig
I have made one of the gravest mistakes.
I have spent many hours researching and observing how best to work with Substack (and even in my own self hosted personal blog). From trying to find a catchy name, what content to write, and how do I draw people to me, I just kept on researching the question. How do I become successful?
My intentions were honest. I want to help point more people to Christ. But, I went about it in the wrong way. My Substack title has changed a handful of times. Shifting to the next catchy name I conjure up. “This will help me catch the eye!” I thought to myself. But in reality, it does not matter how catchy or how edgy I am. If my writing is junk, then no amount of marketing will help it. No matter how much lipstick you put on a pig, it is still a pig. I needed to step back and re-evaluate.
Why am I writing?
Fame?
Fortune?
Pleasure?
What does Christ say?
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Matthew 16:24
I need not rely on me or what I can do. I need to just focus on Christ.
So, to answer the question, why do I write?
I strive to write for the glory of our LORD. I need to trust in Him and if my writings are worthy, readers will come. No matter the name on the title.
